The Mulyan property has been in the Fagan family for five generations. Located in Cowra, in the fertile Lachlan Valley of Central NSW the property was purchased in 1886 from the estate of Dr. William Redfern, a prominent Surgeon at the time.
The property takes is name, Mulyan (pronounced Mul-Li-An), from the Aboriginal name for the eagle which is a native of the region.
Since the early days when the Fagan family took ownership of the property, they have been a pioneering force.
During the 1940's when war ravished the world, the Fagans grew asparagus and sweet corn for the Edgell Cannery's war effort. This operation continued on the property until the 1990s.
With a great understanding and appreciation for the land, current owners, Peter and Jenni Fagan, saw viticulture as a growing opportunity. With their son James heading the viticultural operations, vines were planted in 1994.
There is currently Shiraz, Merlot, Chardonnay and Viognier being grown at Mulyan. The first wines were released in 1998.
Peter and Jenni's daughter, Sarah has also followed the oenology path, and is a winemaker for another family operation, DeBortoli.
Farming is still an integral part of the Mulyan business and the Fagan's second son, Ed, oversees much of this, particularly the production of prime lambs.
